DC vs PBKS IPL 2026: Delhi Capitals Register Season-High Powerplay Score, Surpass Previous Best vs CSK
The Delhi Capitals produced their most dominant powerplay of the Indian Premier League 2026 season, racing to 68/1 in the first six overs against Punjab Kings. This marked their highest powerplay score of the campaign, surpassing the 66/2 they had managed earlier against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. The innings reflected a noticeable shift in intent from the Capitals' top order, who looked far more proactive from the outset.
The start of the innings was positive, with KL Rahul setting the tone through a couple of well-timed boundaries off Xavier Bartlett. His composed yet attacking approach ensured that Delhi did not lose momentum even while navigating the new ball. The Capitals continued to rotate strikes effectively, ensuring the scoreboard kept ticking at a healthy rate.

Punjab's bowling attack, however, struggled to find control during the early overs. Marco Jansen was put under immediate pressure, conceding 10 runs in his opening over, while Vijaykumar Vyshak endured a difficult spell, leaking 16 runs as Delhi capitalised on loose lengths. These expensive overs allowed the Capitals to maintain a strong scoring rate despite the loss of an early wicket.
Nitish Rana also played an important supporting role during the power play. His timely boundaries ensured that the pressure remained on the Punjab bowlers, preventing any slowdown in momentum. Together with KL Rahul, he helped stabilise the innings after the early setback, allowing Delhi to finish the powerplay on a commanding note.
Overall, the Capitals' approach in the first six overs reflected a more fearless and calculated strategy, something that has been inconsistent throughout their season. The 68/1 score not only represented their best powerplay performance of IPL 2026 so far but also provided a strong platform for the middle order to build upon in a crucial fixture.
DC vs PBKS: Pathum Nissanka Falls Early
Pathum Nissanka began his innings with intent, striking an early boundary and looking settled alongside KL Rahul. However, his stay was cut short when he was dismissed for 11 by Arshdeep Singh, who once again proved to be a difficult matchup for the opener.
Arshdeep's effectiveness against Nissanka has been a recurring theme in T20 cricket. In their head-to-head battles, the Punjab Kings pacer has dismissed him twice in just 47 balls while conceding 81 runs at a strike rate of 172.34. Despite Nissanka's aggressive intent, Arshdeep has managed to strike at key moments, often breaking partnerships early in the innings.
Nissanka has looked unsettled whenever there is a left-arm pacer in his T20 career so far. While his stats improve against Left-arm medium pacers, against the express pace, the Sri Lankan batsman has struggled.
For Delhi, the early dismissal was a minor setback in an otherwise dominant powerplay performance. While Nissanka could not convert his start, the Capitals ensured the scoring rate did not dip, maintaining control through the remainder of the power-play overs.
