DC vs RCB IPL 2025: Bhuvneshwar Kumar Beats Piyush Chawla To Claim 2nd Position In Elite List

DC vs RCB: Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar continues to etch his name in the record books on Sunday. During Royal Challengers Bengaluru's clash against Delhi Capitals in Match 46 of IPL 2025, the seasoned campaigner achieved a significant milestone by becoming the Indian bowler with the second-most wickets in T20 cricket.

Bhuvneshwar, who struck with his very first wicket in the game, surpassed Piyush Chawla's tally of 319 T20 wickets. He eventually finished with impressive figures of 3/33, helping RCB tighten their grip on the match.

Now, with 322 wickets from 304 T20 matches, the 34-year-old stands second among Indians, only behind Yuzvendra Chahal, who leads with 373 wickets.

Throughout his illustrious T20 career, Bhuvneshwar has maintained an exceptional bowling average of 24.88 and an economy rate of just 7.30. His consistency is reflected in his five five-wicket hauls and five four-wicket hauls in the format.

In the IPL, Bhuvneshwar's journey has been equally noteworthy. Starting his career with RCB, he didn't get a chance to showcase his skills initially and later moved to Pune Warriors India. However, it was with Sunrisers Hyderabad that he truly made his mark, picking up 157 wickets at an average of 26.81. At the 2025 mega-auction, RCB brought him back for a hefty ₹10.75 crore, a decision that's paying rich dividends.

Against Delhi Capitals, Bhuvneshwar also climbed to second place in the all-time IPL wicket-takers list, again surpassing Piyush Chawla. He now boasts 193 wickets in 185 IPL games at an average of 27.01, including two five-wicket hauls and two four-wicket hauls. His economy remains impressive at 7.6.

On the international stage, Bhuvneshwar remains India's fourth-highest wicket-taker in T20Is, having taken 90 wickets in 87 matches at an outstanding average of 19.90. His economy rate of 6.96 highlights his ability to keep batters under control, alongside three four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls.

In the match against DC, Bhuvneshwar dismissed key players like KL Rahul, Ashutosh Sharma, and Tristan Stubbs, underlining his value once again. Across 23 encounters against DC, he now has 23 wickets at an average of 30.08. Clearly, the veteran pacer continues to be a force to reckon with in the shortest format.
