DC vs RR IPL 2025: Big Blow To Rajasthan! Sanju Samson Retires Hurt After Blistering Start Against Delhi Capitals

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was forced to retire hurt on 16th April, Wednesday after a promising start to the innings against Delhi Capitals in Match 32 of IPL 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Samson looked in excellent touch, smashing Vipraj Nigam for a boundary and a massive six off the first two deliveries of the sixth over. However, trouble struck on the next ball, a quicker googly that Samson attempted to slash. He missed the shot and appeared to be in visible discomfort immediately after. The physio was called onto the field, and after a brief assessment, Samson decided to walk off, possibly having hurt his ribs after scoring 31 off 19.

The Royals skipper had already contributed significantly in the powerplay, and his departure, while precautionary, could impact the team's momentum. Riyan Parag took over at the crease to continue the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, as Rajasthan reached 63/0 at the end of the powerplay.

Samson's early fireworks were crucial in giving RR a strong platform, but his injury will be a concern for both the team and fans as the tournament progresses.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals posted a competitive total of 188/5 in 20 overs of play. Abishek Porel was the standout performer, narrowly missing his half-century as he scored a fluent 49 off 37 balls. While Karun Nair departed for a duck due to a run-out, KL Rahul played a handy knock of 38 off 32, keeping the scoreboard ticking. The real acceleration came from Tristan Stubbs, who played a blistering cameo of 34 not out off 18 balls, and Axar Patel, who added a quickfire 34 off just 14 deliveries. Ashutosh Sharma chipped in with an unbeaten 15. Despite a few hiccups, the Capitals finished strongly, thanks to some late hitting and poor bowling cum fielding from the visiting side.
