DC vs SRH, IPL 2024: Will David Warner play against Sunrisers Hyderabad?

Delhi Capitals batter David Warner's participation in the upcoming IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad is still a doubt as the Australian nurses a thumb injury.

Warner, who is playing for the Capitals only as a batter, injured his thumb in a match and missed out on their last match against Gujarat Titans. The Australian's absence was a blow as Ponting mentioned he will have to undergo a fitness test before any clearance.

"David did have an X-ray after the last game. That X-ray came back all clear. But, he's got a lot of swelling around the knuckle on his left hand. We'll give him a fitness test tomorrow morning, and keeping our fingers crossed that he's okay," Ponting said ahead of the match against the Titans.

Warner was absent from the Gujarat match but the Capitals recorded a resounding win over Gujarat though as they bundled Shubman Gill and his team for just 89 runs. With two victories on the trot, DC are heading in the right direction and would be desperate to continue their recent resurgence.

The Capitals are set to play the first home game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, having played two home games in Vizag already this season. As they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in a crucial match, the expectation is that Warner will be fit for the upcoming match.

Delhi Capitals have looked decent in the last two matches. They played with just 3 overseas players in the last match against Gujarat Titans. David Warner was replaced by young Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has shown excellent promise in his first two matches.

McGurk has batted in a strike rate of 166 and has amassed 75 runs in the first two matches. And even if Warner is fit, it will be hard to squeeze in the veteran. Tristan Stubbs has been an excellent performer, which means Warner's only route back is by replacing West Indies batter Shai Hope.

Will Delhi Capitals change their winning combination? It doesn't look so and Warner may have to sit out, even if he is declared fit for the Sunrisers Hyderabad match.
