Deccan Chronicle Holding picks local players for IPL

Hyderabad, Feb 23 (UNI) Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited today selected eight local players, including one from Orissa, for its Hyderabad team in the IPL Twenty20 League.

N Arjuna Yadav, D Ravi Teja, N Sarveesh Kumar, Pragyan Prayish Ojha, D Kalyan Krishna, P Vijaya Kumar and Y Venugopal Rao were selected for the team from Andhra Pradesh and Halhadar Das W K from Orissa, based on the recommendations of its Selection Committee, headed by team Captain VVS Laxman, according to a release here.

Deccan Chronicle had successfully bid for eight outstanding overseas players -- Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, Herschelle Gibbs, Shahid Afridi, Chaminda Vaas, Scott Styris, Chamara Silva and Nuwan Zoysa and three Indian stars -- VVS Laxman, RP Singh and Rohit Sharma.

With the addition of eight local players, the company had fulfilled the franchisee's obligation to include under-22 players and players from the 'catchment area' in the Twenty20 squad.

The catchment area for the Hyderabad franchise included players from Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.
