Delhi Capitals IPL 2024 Captain: Why Social Media Post On Rishabh Pant's Return As DC Skipper Was Deleted?

Delhi Capitals received a big boost after Rishabh Pant was cleared fit to play in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 following the Indian wicketkeeper-batter's recovery from multiple injuries that he picked up in a near-fatal car crash in December 2022.

Pant, who missed most of action, including the IPL 2023 and the ODI World Cup last year, is all set to return to competitive cricket for the first time in over a year. But there is no news regarding his return as a captain for the team, which he led for two seasons in 2021 and 2022.

Delhi Capitals captain in IPL 2024

Australian opener David Warner led the team in Pant's absence last season. The veteran player may continue in the role even this season as DC will look to use Pant in a different role depending on his fitness as per head coach Ricky Ponting.

But with Pant also doing wicketkeeping, it points towards the Indian wicketkeeper-batter taking over the gloves once the season starts, meaning he could also be leading the team rather than playing as a Impact Player only as a batter.

The latest post by IPL on X also hinted the same, but the post was deleted quickly. The IPL started their captain promotion with Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and later posted the same with a caption on Pant's leadership in the upcoming season. However, the post was deleted a few moments later, leading to specualtion on the internet.

Rishabh Pant s IPL captain post

The post read: "Captain Rishabh Pant is back and ready to dawn leadership duties for Delhi Capitals in TATA IPL 2024. DC fans, get ready to roar for skipper Rishabh Pant, who's all set to get back on field with renewed determination and passion."

Why IPL deleted the post on Pant's return as captain?

It may have been a technical glitch in which a post which was meant for later got pushed earlier or the Delhi Capitals would have wanted to make the announcement themselves first as their skipper has been away from action for a long time.
