Delhi Capitals Retention List for IPL 2025: As the IPL 2025 season approaches, franchises are busy finalising their retention strategies, with October 31 set as the deadline for submitting the list to the BCCI.
Among the teams gearing up for the new season, Delhi Capitals (DC) appears to have a relatively straightforward retention process, thanks to a few automatic picks in their lineup. According to a recent PTI report, DC is set to retain three key players. Let's take a look at them below

Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. Pant, the dynamic wicketkeeper-batter, is expected to be their top pick, earning a handsome INR 18 crore. Having been a part of DC since his IPL debut in 2016, Pant has been a cornerstone of the team's success. Despite a recent cryptic post on social media suggesting he might leave DC, it is widely believed to have been a tactic for boosting engagement. He remains on course to continue as the captain, leading the Capitals in their quest for the title.
Following Pant, Axar Patel is likely to be retained as the second choice, securing a salary of INR 14 crore. Known for his all-round abilities, Axar has consistently been one of the key performers for the Capitals, making him a valuable asset to their lineup. Kuldeep Yadav, who has made significant strides as a wrist-spinner, is expected to be retained for INR 11 crore as the third-choice player.
However, one notable name missing from the retention list is Prithvi Shaw. The opening batsman, who has been with DC since 2018, might be released by the franchise. Despite the backing of the team in past seasons, Shaw's performance in recent IPL editions has not met expectations.
In IPL 2023, he managed only 106 runs in 8 matches, and in IPL 2024, his tally stood at 198 runs in 8 matches. His potential exit could open up a slot for DC to explore other options in the upcoming auction.
Additionally, DC might look to use their Right to Match (RTM) card for two overseas players: Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs. Fraser-McGurk was a standout performer for DC in IPL 2024, stepping in to replace David Warner.
His aggressive batting, with a strike rate of 234.04 and a total of 330 runs in 9 matches, made him a valuable contributor to the team's performance. If retained through the RTM, McGurk and Stubbs could continue to play pivotal roles in DC's campaign for the 2025 season.
