Delhi Capitals rope in former player as new Spin Bowling Coach ahead of IPL 2027

Delhi Capitals have appointed former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra as their spin-bowling coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season, bringing the veteran back to the franchise where his IPL journey began.

Mishra's appointment is part of a major overhaul of Delhi's coaching setup following their failure to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2026. The 43-year-old will begin his coaching career in the league after retiring from professional cricket, bringing extensive experience to the team's spin department.

Mishra played 162 IPL matches for four franchises, taking 174 wickets. He also holds the tournament record for the most hat-tricks, with three. During his career, he represented Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants. His return gives Delhi a coach with a deep understanding of the league and its conditions.

Delhi Capitals' New-Look Coaching Staff

Mishra joins a revamped coaching group led by former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who was appointed head coach earlier this month. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has taken up the role of assistant and batting coach, while former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas has joined as fast-bowling coach.

The appointments bring considerable international experience across the team's batting and bowling departments as Delhi look to build a stronger campaign in 2027.

Delhi Capitals Look to Bounce Back After IPL 2026

Delhi Capitals finished sixth in the 2026 season, recording seven wins in 14 matches and missing out on the playoffs. Despite individual contributions, the team could not maintain the consistency required to reach the knockout stage.

The franchise will hope its revamped coaching staff can address those shortcomings and improve its overall performance. Ganguly's leadership, Yuvraj's batting expertise, Vaas's fast-bowling experience and Mishra's knowledge of spin could prove important as Delhi continue their pursuit of a maiden IPL title.
