Delhi Capitals rope in Sourav Ganguly as New Head Coach before IPL 2027
Delhi Capitals have appointed former India captain Sourav Ganguly as their head coach for IPL 2027, ushering in a major overhaul of the franchise's coaching setup ahead of the new season, as DC announced on Tuesday (October 6).
The move comes after Delhi Capitals parted ways with the coaching group led by Hemang Badani following the IPL 2026 season. The change coincides with the transition of operational control from GMR Sports to JSW Sports, which will oversee the franchise for the 2027 and 2028 IPL cycles.

Ganguly returns to the Delhi Capitals setup in a new capacity after previously serving as the team's Director of Cricket. He has maintained a long association with the franchise and was also involved with the team's management before becoming BCCI president.
The former India captain also gained his first experience as a professional head coach with Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, making his appointment in the IPL a continuation of his move into coaching. He also reached the final of the SA20 team in his first season as head coach of a team.
"I am looking forward to take on the role of Head Coach in the IPL. Delhi Capitals is a franchise very close to my heart, and one that I have shared a strong relationship with over the years. I have worked closely with the owners, management, support staff and players, which makes this an exciting responsibility for me. We have a talented group and have played a good brand of cricket in the recent past. I am looking forward to working with the squad, the new season, and building a strong and fearless team," Ganguly said after his appointment.
Yuvraj Singh, Chaminda Vaas and Amit Mishra join
Ganguly will be part of a star-studded coaching group that is set to include several former international cricketers. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is set to take up the role of batting coach, marking his first formal coaching assignment in the IPL. Yuvraj has already been involved in mentoring several young Indian batters in recent years. Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas will take charge of the pace-bowling department, while former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra is expected to oversee spin bowling.
The appointments give Delhi Capitals a coaching unit packed with international experience as the franchise attempts to build a fresh identity for the 2027 season.
Ganguly's return comes with major changes
The coaching overhaul follows a difficult couple of seasons for Delhi Capitals. The franchise finished sixth in IPL 2026 and continued its wait for a maiden IPL title.
The change in management also comes after a major player move, with Rishabh Pant returning to Delhi Capitals from Lucknow Super Giants in a trade that saw Kuldeep Yadav move in the opposite direction.
With Ganguly now taking charge and Pant back in the squad, Delhi Capitals will enter the IPL 2027 cycle with a significantly reshaped leadership structure and renewed expectations.
