Virender Sehwag’s Son Vedant Among Delhi U-16 Players Stuck for 24 Hours; Vijay Merchant Trophy Team Reaches Without Equipment- Exclusive

Delhi U-16: The ongoing IndiGo airlines crisis has now begun to impact the cricketing world as well. Among the many affected groups, the Delhi Under-16 team, travelling to Vijayawada for the Vijay Merchant Trophy, had to endure more than 24 hours of waiting at Delhi airport between December 4-5, only to be forced to fly without their kit bags, leaving the young players stunned and helpless upon arrival.

According to team sources, the airline's baggage handling system had initially loaded all kit bags almost 24 hours prior to the team's scheduled departure. However, the luggage was later left unattended for more than two days without any communication from the airline.

As a result, the cricketers reached Vijayawada without any playing equipment, causing a major setback to their practice schedules and match preparation. Among the cricketers, Virender Sehwag's son Vedant was also travelling with the team.

It has also emerged that several other teams and match officials are facing similar travel disruptions, struggling to reach their respective tournament venues. For a BCCI tournament at this level - where every game is crucial for young players' careers - such negligence has triggered frustration and disappointment among players, coaches, and parents alike.

Sources confirmed that the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) swiftly intervened and arranged for the baggage to be sent on another flight to Hyderabad, from where the kit bags were expected to be transported by road to Vijayawada. In the meantime, the Delhi players were forced to borrow equipment locally to ensure they could field a team and continue with tournament commitments. Delhi will next play Haryana from December 7 onwards.
