Dhawan, who was not out on 26 yesterday (December 19), did not come out to bat today on the 4th day of the 2nd Test after injuring his right wrist while batting in the 'nets'. Virat Kohli too was hit in the 'nets.

Following this, Indian team management issued a statement on Saturday morning stating that their request for fresh net practice wickets was not met by the authorities in Brisbane. The practice wickets were worn out and had uneven bounce resulting in injuries, it said. (Unrest in dressing room after Dhawan injury: Dhoni)

"Team India has been asking for fresh net practice wickets at the Gabba several times for last two days but our request has not been met. We have been asked to practice on worn out wickets with uneven bounce, because of which two of our batsmen have injured themselves today morning," the Indian team management said in a statement today.

"One of the two batsmen, Shikar Dhawan - who was one of the overnight batsmen on the fourth morning of the Test - had a right wrist injury due to which he was unable to bat in the morning. He is been examined by our physio, who will assess his fitness in time," it added.

Dhawan resumed his innings after India lost their 5th wicket. The left-hander went on to top score for the team with 81.
