Dinesh Karthik says India star will become 'one of the best ever' in cricket

India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik is known for speaking his heart out, and Karthik has made a monumental remark in an interview.

The current Indian team has a blend of veterans and youngsters. With the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the seasoned campaigners, the Indian team is also blessed with young sensations like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and others.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been excellent in the ongoing Test series against West Indies where he has scored a hundred and a fifty in the first two Test innings of his career. On the other hand, Shubman Gill hasn't made a mark yet.

Gill, who is batting at no. 3, has so far managed just 16 runs in two innings. He also had a poor outing in the WTC 2023 Final against Australia.

But Gill's former KKR captain Dinesh Karthik has stood beside him and reckons the youngster can be a world beater in the future.

"I can promise you, Shubman Gill is going to be something really special in the long run. Just stay with him, just be patient. Even in T20 cricket, I remember when he came to KKR, he wasn't exactly doing what he is doing today. Just give him time. There is nothing he needs to do in terms of technique or mental preparation," Karthik said to Cricbuzz.

Karthik also mentioned the fact that some players find things difficult in West Indies, but confirmed Gill can be one of the greatest ever to play the game.

"He is a big match player, and he is destined for special things. I will have a lot of time for Shubman Gill, and I believe he is going to become one of the best that has ever played the game," Karthik added.

India scored 438 runs in the first innings as Virat Kohli scored his 29th Test century. West Indies are 86 for 1 at the end of 2nd day's play in Port of Spain.
