Dinesh Karthik has made history as the highest run-scorer among Indian wicketkeepers in T20 cricket.
The 39-year-old achieved this milestone while playing for Paarl Royals in the SA20 2025.

During a match against Durban Super Giants on January 27, Karthik scored 21 runs off 15 balls, surpassing MS Dhoni's record of 7,432 T20 runs. Karthik needed 3 runs to overtake Dhoni and reached the landmark despite limited batting opportunities. He now has 7,451 runs in 361 innings, averaging 26.99 with a strike rate of 136.84.
MS Dhoni, an icon of T20 cricket, has an impressive record of 7,432 runs in 342 innings. His average is 38.11, and his strike rate is 135.64. While Karthik leads overall T20 runs for Indian wicketkeepers, Dhoni remains the highest run-scorer among wicketkeepers in IPL history. Dhoni has 5,125 IPL runs, followed by Karthik with 4,463 runs.
The Paarl Royals have been exceptional this season, dominating the points table with seven wins in eight matches. In a recent game against Pretoria Capitals, they became the first team in franchise T20 cricket to bowl all their overs using only spinners.
Although Karthik has gone past Dhoni, the former India captain will have the opportunity to reclaim his spot when he takes field for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. Dhoni was retained by CSK for Rs 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and the 43-year-old is set to continue his IPL adventure.
