DLF IPL to offer a prize money of Rs 12 cr

Mumbai, Apr 4 (UNI) The Inaugural DLF Indian Premier League, beginning in Bangalore on April 18, will offer a total cash prize money of Rs 12 crore with the winner carrying home the top prize of Rs 4.8 crore.

Announcing the prize, Chairman and League Commissioner Lalit Modi said in a release that the runner up would be richer by Rs 2.4 crore while the two losing semi-finalists would each earn Rs 1.2 crore.

The total prize money will be further divided amongst other teams, with the team finishing fifth collecting Rs 80 lakh, while the sixth finisher will earn Rs 70 lakh. The team finishing seventh on the league table will get Rs 50 lakh while the eighth finisher will earn Rs 40 lakh.

He said the Rs 4.8 crore top prize money makes DLF IPL truly one of the richest events for a domestic Twenty20 league anywhere in the world.

With just a few days left until the first ball is bowled in Bangalore, the excitement is almost palpable and cricket lovers across the world cannot wait to see who would emerge victorious on June 1, he added.

The inaugural match is between Kolkata Knight Riders and Vijay Mallya owned Bangalore Royal Challengers at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The inaugural season of the DLF Indian Premier League would showcase a grand total of 59 matches over 44 days providing broadcasters and in-stadia spectators with 177 hours of live ''family entertainment''.
