Don't think I have ever played or will ever play under a captain like Rohit Sharma: India pacer Akash Deep

By MyKhel Staff

Ahead of the second Test against Bangladesh from Friday, October 27, pacer Akash Deep has heaped praise on Rohit Sharma. The 27-year-old, who was part of the India eleven which registered a 280-run win in the first Test, said he hasn't ever played under a captain as natural and supportive as Rohit.

Akash Deep bowled five overs in the first innings of the Chennai Test and clean bowled two top-order batters as Bangladesh were bundled out for 149. It was only his second Test match for India but the Bihar-born cricketer was in complete control of his game.

"I had hesitation initially that there would be pressure, but Rohit bhaiya made things so simple. I don't think I have ever played, or will ever play, under such a natural captain. He keeps things simple, I never felt whether I am playing domestic or international cricket,” Akash Deep said in a press conference ahead of the Kanpur Test.

How Gods of cricket Rohit and Virat inspired Akash Deep?

Akash Deep also revealed how seniors Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli inspired him with their work ethics. He said he was baffled at the level of dedication shown by the 'Gods of cricket' after he joined the Indian team.

"When I came here, I witnessed a different level of dedication and hard work from the players who are legends of the game, and considered the gods of cricket like Rohit, Virat bhai," Akash Deep, who made his debut with Ranchi Test against England in February this year, said.

"I realised that they have achieved so much and are still working so hard during training. Their thought process is at a different level, this motivates me to work even harder," he added.

Akash Deep is likely to pair up with Mohammed Siraj for the second Test in Kanpur. Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be rested on a black soil pitch which will favour the spinners.
