‘Dosa, Idli’ Song Sparks IPL Row as CSK File Complaint Against RCB Match DJ

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have lodged an official complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), alleging that the franchise was "insulted and undermined" during their IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5.

The complaint relates to in-stadium entertainment during the match, including the playing of a viral track referencing South Indian food items, which CSK felt stereotyped their Tamil Nadu identity.

'Dosa, idli, sambar' track sparks controversy

The issue centres around a song played by the stadium DJ during the match that featured the line "Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney."

The track, which has circulated widely on social media and meme platforms, was reportedly played during moments in the game that CSK officials felt were inappropriate. The franchise believed that the timing and context of the song's usage crossed acceptable boundaries of fan engagement.

The matter quickly drew attention within IPL circles, with officials confirming that the complaint has been formally submitted for review.

CSK raise concerns over DJ comments during match

CSK management stated that their concerns were not limited to the song alone. The franchise also objected to certain remarks allegedly made by the stadium DJ following the dismissal of their players.

According to team officials, DJs are expected to energise the home crowd but should not make comments that target opposition players or undermine rival teams.

The franchise described the situation as unacceptable and formally requested the BCCI to investigate the matter and take appropriate action if required.

Incident linked to earlier fan-related tensions

The track involved in the controversy had previously gained attention online after being associated with cricket-related fan content. At the time, concerns had been raised about the use of similar references directed at teams or players.

CSK officials noted that no similar incidents had occurred in recent matches until the April 5 encounter in Bengaluru, making the latest development particularly disappointing for the franchise.

BCCI reviewing complaint amid growing rivalry intensity

The BCCI has acknowledged receiving the complaint, and the IPL Governing Council is currently reviewing the matter.

While stadium DJs and entertainment teams play an important role in creating match-day atmosphere, the incident has reignited debate about maintaining professionalism and respect during high-profile fixtures.

The complaint also comes at a time when the rivalry between the two franchises has intensified, adding further scrutiny to match-day conduct.

No official action has been announced yet, and the outcome of the review could determine whether new guidelines are introduced regarding in-stadium entertainment.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings will turn their attention to upcoming fixtures as the IPL season continues, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru remain among the leading teams in the standings.
