DPL 2025: Rishabh Pant dons Purani Dilli 6 Colours, set to lead Franchise in Delhi Premier League

By MyKhel Staff

India's star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has become the sole retained player for Purani Dilli 6 ahead of the DPL 2025 season.

Purani Dilli 6, one of the standout teams from the Delhi Premier League's inaugural season, has confirmed the retention of star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for the upcoming edition. The dynamic left-hander will continue as the franchise's marquee player as they aim for a deeper run in 2025.

The 2024 season saw Purani Dilli 6 put in a commendable performance during the league stages, consistently challenging opponents and finishing strong. However, their campaign came to an abrupt halt, with the semi-final being washed out due to rain, ending their title hopes prematurely.

With Pant staying at the helm, the team is determined to push further this year. Franchise owner Mr. Akash Nangia voiced his confidence in Pant's influence on the squad.

"Rishabh Pant is more than just a top-tier cricketer - he's the soul of Purani Dilli 6. His experience, leadership, and natural flair provide us with a significant edge. We're assembling a formidable side around him and fully believe we have what it takes to go all the way this season," he said.

Pant, who has been a vocal supporter of grassroots cricket, shared his enthusiasm about staying on with the franchise. He will be leading the team this season and credited DPL for nurturing top talents.

"The DPL has evolved into a crucial platform for emerging talent across India, and credit must go to Mr. Rohan Jaitley and the DDCA for their efforts in nurturing this league. Players like Digvesh Rathi and Priyansh Arya are great examples of the impact this tournament has made," Pant said.

"Purani Dilli 6 is close to my heart. The passion of the Delhi crowd and our shared hunger for success drive us forward. We laid a strong foundation last season, and now our focus is on coming back sharper and stronger," the star India player added.

In a significant development, the Delhi & District Cricket Association has expanded the DPL roster to eight teams, introducing two new franchises - Outer Delhi and New Delhi, for the 2025 season. This move is set to intensify the competition and deepen the league's reach.

Player auctions for the new season will be held in New Delhi, with the men's auction scheduled for July 6 and the women's auction the following day.
