DPL 2026: Aaryavir Sehwag on ‘Like Father, Like Son’ Comparisons- “I Don’t Think That Much About These Comparisons”

DPL 2026: Virender Sehwag's trademark aggression seems to be making its way into the next generation, with his son Aaryavir Sehwag producing a moment reminiscent of his father during the ongoing Delhi Premier League 2026.

Playing for the West Delhi Lions, the young batter struck 22 off 14 balls in the 35th game of the tournament. Although his cameo featured four boundaries, one particular shot stood out, drawing comparisons to the iconic stroke often seen from the former India opener.

But beyond the similarities, it is the uniqueness that Aaryavir looks to carve out which can help him write his name in the cricketing books. "I don't think that much about these comparisons. When we talk at home, between me, Vedant, and Dad, about cricket, there's a lot of talk about being mentally strong. I said this last year as well," the 18-year-old remarked after his game.

He also mentioned staying 'mentally calm' and cutting down on the 'external noise' to just focus and improve on the game.

'Like Father Like Son'

Aaryavir produced a stunning backfoot punch that instantly brought memories of his father's trademark strokeplay from his illustrious international career.

The similarity was hard to miss, prompting the Delhi Premier League to share both shots side by side on social media. The comparison revealed striking parallels in their batting mechanics, with the movement, timing and follow-through looking remarkably alike. It offered fans an intriguing glimpse of the natural similarities between the young batter and his legendary father.

While Aaryavir is still at the beginning of his cricketing journey, the shot served as a reminder that the Sehwag legacy remains associated with bold, attacking batting.

Speaking about his batting, Aaryavir said, "The bowlers had played with me at the Under-19 level, so there wasn't too much nervousness. But I was definitely hungry for runs, and I'm happy with whatever contribution I could make."
