ECB should decide not players: Pietersen

By Staff

London, Jul 25 (UNI) With the western cricket boards up in arms over the ICC decision to retain Pakistan as the hosts for the Champions Trophy, England middle-order batsman Kevin Pietersen has urged the ECB to decide on the issue of participation instead of leaving it to the players.

''The ECB are coming together on - I think - August 3 or 4, having spoken to (chief executive) David Collier this morning, and he reassured me that the decision will probably be taken out of the players' hands, which is great,''Pietersen said.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will announce their decision on participating in this September's Champions Trophy after discussions with senior players.

Yesterday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) executive board decided to keep the Champions trophy in Pakistan.

However, the swashbuckling batsman emphasised that cricket's governing body in the country should make the final call, not the players.

''I really hope not, to be totally honest. But I don't know, we'll see the outcome of that meeting, whatever the decision is.

''If it's taken out of the players' hands then great. If not, then I'll certainly make a decision,'' he added.
