Eden Gardens Stats and Records: The venue in Kolkata, which is the second largest cricket stadium in India and third largest in the world, is also oldest stadium in the country that has hosted several historic matches.
Before the Narendra Modi Stadium's renovation, Eden Gardens held the title for the largest venue in India with a capacity of 68,000. It was the first stadium that hosted a World Cup final in 1987 after Lord's hosted the first three.

The lively pitch and breezy conditions next to the Hooghly River are sure to rustle up some stunning ODI clashes, as well as a World Cup semi-final meeting with all the games set to be staged at the end of October due to the retreating monsoon.
The Eden Gardens, one of the ten host venues during the ICC World Cup 2023, first hosted a match on October 28 when Bangladesh met Netherlands followed by the second meeting that also featured Bangladesh, who faced Asian rivals Pakistan on October 31.
In November, the iconic Eden Gardens will play hosts to the home side - Team India when they take on South Africa followed by another interesting clash when Pakistan face England. After the four league matches, the venue will host the second semifinal.
The venue has hosted as many as 84 international matches so far and many IPL matches. The venue has also been host to six World Cup matches earlier with 2 matches in 1987, one match in 1996, and three matches in 2011.
In 1987, New Zealand beat Zimbabwe by 4 wickets before Australia beat England in the final by 7 runs. In 1996, the venue played hosts to one of the most infamous match between India and eventual champions Sri Lanka, who were awarded the semifinal win after crowd disruption.
In 2011, the venue saw Ireland lost to South Africa by a massive 131 runs before the Irish beat Netherlands by 6 wickets. In the final match at the venue, Zimbabwe beat Kenya by 161 runs.
Since the 2011 World Cup, the venue in Kolkata has played hosts to six ODI matches, which have seen five matches end in favour of the team batting first, but the most recent one ended in favour of the team chasing. There has been a mixture of high-scoring and low-scoring games in that period.
In the World Cup 2023, Netherlands stunned Bangladesh with an 87-run win, while Pakistan also beat Bangladesh and India dominated South Africa, and England beat Pakistan. Here is a look at the venue information as well as the ODI statistics and record of the Eden Gardens in Kolkata:
