Egypt's Nations Cup protest rejected by CAF
CAIRO, June 7 (Reuters) Egypt's protest over the outcome of Sunday's African Nations Cup qualifier in Mauritania has been rejected, the Confederation of African Football said today.
The Egyptians, who won the last Nations Cup, had sought to have the result of their Group Two match overturned after a crowd invasion halted the restart of the second half by 40 minutes. The match in Nouakchott, the Mauritanian capital, ended in a 1-1 draw.
CAF said they had rejected Egypt's protest saying the delay has been ordered by the CAF match commissioner for security reasons after the crowd invasion.
Egypt have a two point lead in the group standings with two matches left to play.
