Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 All Star XI: Abhishek Sharma to Sediqullah Atal, Check Out Team of the Tournament

The Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 final on Sunday, October 27, marked the end of nine days of exhilarating cricket, with Afghanistan A lifting the title for the first time.

The tournament featured some of the best cricketing teams in Asia sending their future prospects, who did not disappoint with their performances with the bat and ball. From power-hitting knocks to five-wicket hauls, the first T20 edition of the Emerging Teams Asia Cup had it all.

Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 All Star XI

With the conclusion of this year’s event, let’s have a look at the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 best playing XI, and see which players made the cut and who did not.

Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 All Star XI

Sediqullah Atal (AFG-A)

Sediqullah Atal has made himself a household name among cricket fans with his performance, scoring 368 runs in five matches. His scorecard in the tournament reads something out of a computer game – 83, 95*, 52, 83, and 55. He has done more than enough to warrant a place in the full Afghanistan T20I squad.

Zubaid Akbari (AFG-A)

Another Afghan batter who, barring an embarrassing duck in the final match, had a tournament to remember. The opener, despite playing second fiddle to Atal, scored 137 runs in four matches, which included two half-centuries.

Parvez Hossain Emon (BAN-A) (wk)

No wicketkeeper has been a standout performer in the tournament, but Bangladesh A opener Parvez Hossain Emon was the better of the lot. His half-century against Afghanistan A, despite his team failing to win the match, was the best batting display from a Bangladeshi player in the tournament.

Babar Hayat (HKG)

The Pakistan-born batter has been a bright spot in Hong Kong’s tournament, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer despite being eliminated in the group stages. The power-hitter reached double digits in sixes as well, and his runs were crucial in ensuring that the associate nation was not overwhelmed in matches against stronger opponents.

Sahan Arachchige (SL-A)

The batting all-rounder, who scored 147 runs, was a reliable presence in the middle order for Sri Lanka A, tasked with seeing out the match for his team. However, he turned up whenever the Lankans were in trouble, and his partnership with Pavan Rathnayake was crucial in securing the win against Bangladesh A in the final group game.

Abhishek Sharma (IND-A)

The batting all-rounder is already a prospect for India’s T20I side, and his performance with the bat was crucial in maintaining India A’s unbeaten run in the group stage. His performance against the UAE was a highlight moment, finishing with 58 runs in 24 balls, as well as one wicket.

Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar (AFG-A)

While Afghanistan A’s batters have dominated headlines, spinner AM Ghazanfar has been lethal with the ball. He took six wickets in four matches, but four of those wickets have come in the final and semi-final matches. The 18-year-old has a bright future in international cricket for the full Afghan team.

Dushan Hemantha (SL-A)

15 wickets in five matches speak for themselves. Dushan Hemantha is the main reason Sri Lanka A restricted their opponents to sub-150 scores in all but one match, with the leg-spinner maintaining an economy rate of 6.50 throughout the tournament. The 30-year-old never got a fair crack at the full national team, but Sri Lanka’s lack of leg-breakers might give him a belated international future.

Rasikh Salam (IND-A)

What an incredible story this has been! Coming back from a two-year ban and inconsistent form, Rasikh Salam reminded the world why he was once considered one of the best bowling prospects in Indian cricket. He finished with nine wickets in four matches, including a three-wicket haul in the losing effort against Afghanistan A in the semi-final.

Sufiyan Muqeem (PAK-A)

Picked over Shahnawaz Dahani because of his consistent performance throughout the tournament, taking at least one wicket in every single match for Pakistan A. Muqeem ended with six wickets in four matches while conceding less than six runs an over. The 24-year-old is far from a finished product, but Pakistan will be excited with the talent that he so clearly possesses.

Ripon Mondol (BAN-A)

21-year-old Ripon Mondol announced himself to international cricket in some style, taking four wickets in the opening match against Hong Kong. He took two wickets each in the next two matches, and a narrow loss against Sri Lanka A in the final group match stopped him from competing with Hemantha for the wicket-taking leaderboard. Bangladesh have ample reason to be excited about him in the post-Shakib era.
