SL A vs PAK A: Sri Lanka A secured a commanding seven-wicket victory over Pakistan A in the first semifinal of the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 at Al Amerat Cricket Ground, Oman, advancing to the tournament final.
A dominant all-round performance, highlighted by Dushan Hemantha's four-wicket haul and Ahan Wickramasinghe's unbeaten half-century, set up the win for the Lankan side.

Pakistan A, having opted to bat first, struggled to find momentum and posted a modest total of 135/9 in their 20 overs. Their innings hinged on a determined 68 from opener Omair Bin Yousuf, who was the standout performer. Despite a steady start, Pakistan A lost crucial wickets at regular intervals, especially once Hemantha entered the attack.
The leg-spinner was in top form, finishing with 4/21, exploiting the conditions and Pakistan's middle order woes. Nipun Rashika (2/21) and Eshan Malinga (2/28) provided solid support, stifling Pakistan's attempts to accelerate in the latter stages.
In response, Sri Lanka A chased down the 136-run target with ease, reaching 137/3 in just 16.3 overs. Although they lost Yashoda Lanka (11) early in a rare dismissal for obstructing the field, Lahiru Udara played a breezy knock of 43 off 25 balls to keep the Lankans on track. His quickfire innings, punctuated by two sixes off Mohammad Imran, set the tone for the chase.
Ahan Wickramasinghe anchored the innings, exhibiting composure after the initial setbacks. He struck crucial boundaries and rotated the strike efficiently, finishing unbeaten on 52. The young batter formed a steady partnership with Sahan Arachchige, who contributed a patient 17 not out. Despite a brief resurgence from Pakistan A, where Abbas Afridi managed to dismiss Nuwanidu Fernando for 9, the target was never beyond Sri Lanka's grasp.
Abbas Afridi (1/16) and Sufiyan Muqeem (1/27) were the only bowlers to make inroads, but their efforts came too late to derail Sri Lanka's well-constructed chase. Pakistan A's overall effort, marred by missed chances and a lack of impactful partnerships, cost them the match.
With this victory, Sri Lanka A have booked their spot in the final of the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024, while Pakistan A will reflect on a missed opportunity. Dushan Hemantha's decisive spell earned him the well-deserved Man of the Match award, as he played a pivotal role in dismantling Pakistan A's batting lineup.
