ENG vs AUS 2nd ODI: Adil Rashid Becomes First-Ever England Spinner To Achieve This Milestone in ODIs

Adil Rashid achieved a record milestone as he went on to become the first England spinner to join the 200 wickets club in One Day Internationals. The leg spinner achieved the feat during England's defeat to Australia in the second ODI at Headingley in Leeds.

The 36-year-old, who is already England's leading spinner in the format, reached the milestone when he dismissed Glenn Maxwell (7) in his sixth over of the second England-Australia ODI on Saturday (September 21).

Maxwell tried to cart the leg-spinner out of the ground but hit straight to deep mid-wicket. He later added the scalp of fellow leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who holed out to Olly Stone at short third man in Rashid's ninth over.

Rashid became the only England spinner to claim 200 wickets with Moeen Ali (111) and Graeme Swann (104) the only other spinners to take more than 100 men's ODI wickets. Sophie Ecclestone also has 100 ODI wickets for the women's team.

Rashid played the first five of his ODIs after making his debut in 2009 but had to wait for almost six years before he featured again in the format. After his comeback Rashid became a white-ball regular, and along with Moeen Ali formed a potent spin partnership for England in ODIs.

While Rashid is the leading spin wicket-taker among England players in ODIs, the leg-spinner is still behind James Anderson and Darren Gough in the overall list. The two pacers finished their careers with 269 and 234 wickets respectively.

Coming back to the Headingley match, England fell to their second successive defeat after Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc helped Australia extend their winning streak to 14 on Saturday (September 21).
