ENG vs NZ: Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra on Thursday (October 5) shared the fourth highest partnership in ODI World Cup history as New Zealand registered a 9-wicket victory over defending champions England in the ICC World Cup 2023 opener.
The Blackcaps duo stitched an unbeaten 273-run stand to help New Zealand seal the run chase of 283 with 13.4 overs to spare at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Conway played a scintillating knock of unbeaten 152 runs off 121 while Rachin slammed an outstanding 123* runs off 96 balls. The Conway-Ravindra stand was New Zealand's best-ever in a World Cup, but way off the leaders.
The stand between Conway and Ravindra is the highest and the first 200-plus partnership by a New Zealand pair, breaking the previous highest of 168 by Chris Harris and Lee Germon, set in 1996 against Australia in Chennai.
The highest partnership in ODI World Cup, however, belongs to West Indies duo Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels, who put together 372 runs against a hapless Zimbabwe during the 2015 World Cup. Here is a look at the highest partnerships in Cricket World Cup so far:
| Partnership | Team | Versus | Venue | Year | Runs |
| Chris Gayle & Marlon Samuels | West Indies | Zimbabwe | Canberra | 2015 | 372 |
| Sourav Ganguly & Rahul Dravid | India | Sri Lanka | Taunton | 1996 | 318 |
| Upul Tharanga & Tillakaratne Dilshan | Sri Lanka | Zimbabwe | Pallekele | 2011 | 282 |
| Devon Conway & Rachin Ravindra | New Zealand | England | Ahmedabad | 2023 | 273* |
| David Warner & Steve Smith | Australia | Afghanistan | Perth | 2015 | 260 |
After losing opening partner Will Young for a duck in the second over, Conway forged a spectacular stand with Ravindra, who didn't succumb under pressure in his first-ever World Cup as the duo took the England bowlers to the cleaners.
Conway and Ravindra struck 28 fours and 8 sixes during their carnage against English bowling attack that looked clueless albeit on a wicket and tournament that may assist the chasing teams with dew also playing a key factor.

While this stand was New Zealand's highest in ODI World Cup, it fell one short of their best-ever stand in One Day Internationals. That record, still belongs to Hamish Marshall and Brendon McCullum, who shared 274 runs against Ireland in Abredeen in 2008.
