ENG vs SA: Defending champions England and their captain Jos Buttler were brutally trolled after South Africa reduced them to 84/7 while defending 400 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, October 21.
England opted to bat first but that did not help them much. They got the wicket of Quinton de Kock soon but a 121-run stand between Reeza Hendricks (85) and Rassie Van Der Dussen gave South Africa a launching pad which they used to the maximum.

Stand-in captain Aiden Markram, who hit the fastest ODI World Cup tournament in the ongoing tournament, scored 42 off 44 and forged a 69-run partnership with Heinrich Klaasen (109 off 67) who blasted the sixth fastest fifty in the history of the marquee 50-over ICC event.
Fast-bowling all-rounder Marco Jansen also made the most of the opportunity and scored unbeaten 75 runs off just 42 balls. England needed to do something special to gun down the sixth highest total in the history of World Cup but South Africa pacers ran over them and inflicted a collapse which has shocked many.
England, who were boasting of batting depth ahead of the mega event, lost four wickets in the powerplay. They were soon reduced to 84/7 in 15.1 overs. Their eighth wicket fell at the score of 100.
Even Ben Stokes, who came out of ODI retirement recently after request from Buttler, could not provide relief to the Three Lions. He replaced Liam Livingtsone in the squad to play his first match of the World Cup 2023 but could score just five runs off eight balls.
Buttler also dropped Sam Curran for the match. Both Livinsgtone and Curran also increase the bowling depth of England apart from hitting lusty blows in the middle and end overs. Stokes, who has been named in the squad as a specialist batter, did not bowl against South Africa.
South Africa pacers Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi and Gerald Coetzee were on the money from ball one. South Africa finally won the match by 230 runs. England have now lost three of their first four matches.
Having already lost their first match against New Zealand by nine wickets and the last game against Afghanistan in Delhi, fans slammed captain Jos Buttler and trolled the England team for the shambolic performance. Here are a few of the best reactions.
