ENG vs ZIM: Shoaib Bashir 6-81 Powers England to Innings Win Over Zimbabwe as Summer Begins with Trent Bridge Triumph

ENG vs ZIM: Trent Bridge, Nottingham - Under cloudy skies and with a gentle breeze ushering in the English summer, young Shoaib Bashir announced his arrival in emphatic fashion, spinning England to an innings and 45-run triumph over Zimbabwe in their one-off Test.

This match, England's first of the home season, belonged to Bashir, the 20-year-old off-spinner who bamboozled Zimbabwe's batters and walked away with match figures of 9 for 143. His six-wicket haul in the second innings dismantled any hopes the visitors harboured of dragging the game into a fourth day.

ENG vs ZIM Shoaib Bashir 6-81 Powers England to Innings Win Over Zimbabwe as Summer Begins with Trent Bridge Triumph

England's imposing first innings total of 565-powered by centuries from Ollie Pope (171), Ben Duckett (140), and Zak Crawley (124)-left Zimbabwe with a mountain to climb. Despite a valiant effort from Sean Williams (88) and Sikandar Raza (60), the visitors were unable to prevent a comprehensive defeat after being asked to follow on.

Day 3 began with a flicker of Zimbabwean resistance. Ben Curran got going with a streaky boundary off Ben Stokes, while Williams exuded confidence, unfurling a series of crisp drives, including consecutive boundaries off the England captain. Their 122-run stand was built on patience and precision, with Williams reaching his half-century off just 42 balls, peppering the off-side with exquisite cover drives and inventive sweeps.

However, just as Zimbabwe looked to stabilise, Bashir struck. Curran, after surviving an LBW shout thanks to DRS, departed soon after Lunch, offering a simple catch to cover. Williams followed, dismissed LBW, with technology upholding the umpire's decision despite marginal contact with the stumps.

Zimbabwe refused to fold quietly. Wessly Madhevere and Raza knuckled down, adding 65 runs and momentarily threatening to push England into a second innings. But the hosts responded with steely intent. Stokes returned to the attack and immediately found success, inducing a top-edge from Madhevere that Harry Brook snaffled brilliantly.

Bashir, by now in full flow, continued to wreak havoc. A textbook off-break skittled Tafadzwa Tsiga, clipping the leg-stump after pitching well outside off. Muzarabani followed soon after, miscuing a wild swing to deep mid-wicket, while Raza's defiant 60 ended with a miscued sweep to slip-another scalp for the spinning sensation.

Victor Nyauchi swung for the fences with two fortunate boundaries, but it was merely delaying the inevitable. Bashir returned to wrap things up, trapping Tanaka Chivanga plumb in front, sending Trent Bridge into raptures.

It was a dominant display from England, setting the tone for the summer with a well-rounded performance. But the day-and the match-belonged to Shoaib Bashir, whose spin wizardry lit up the East Midlands and ensured England's summer began not with a whimper, but with a roar.
