ENG-W vs WI-W, 1st ODI – Under the cloudy skies of the County Ground in Derby, England Women lit up the opening ODI of the West Indies Women’s tour with a commanding 108-run win, sending a clear message that they mean business this summer.
The hosts, powered by sublime centuries from Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones, racked up a mammoth 345/6 before their bowlers, led by Linsey Smith and Em Arlott, ripped through the visitors to secure a clinical victory.

Amy Jones, who combined elegance with authority en route to a majestic 122 off 121 balls, was rightfully crowned Player of the Match. Her stand with opener Beaumont, who notched up a polished 107, laid the perfect foundation for England’s towering total.

Player of the Match: Amy Jones
Asked to bat first, England got off to a solid start courtesy of Tammy Beaumont. The opener was in her element, piercing the gaps with ease and putting the bowlers under pressure with her crisp strokeplay. Her knock of 107 off 104 deliveries, laced with 8 boundaries and a six, oozed class.
But it was Amy Jones who stole the limelight. Walking in at No. 3, the wicketkeeper-batter anchored the innings masterfully. Her century was a blend of grit and grace, stitched with 11 fours and a six. The duo added a mammoth 222-run partnership that completely deflated the West Indies attack.
Despite a mini-collapse in the later stages, with quick wickets of Lamb, Jones, and Dunkley, England didn’t take their foot off the pedal. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt chipped in with a brisk 52 off 36 balls, while Em Arlott provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 7-ball 17. By the time the innings closed at 345/6, the writing was already on the wall for the Windies.
Chasing a daunting 346 was always going to be a mountainous task for West Indies, and while they began with a flicker of hope through skipper Hayley Matthews’ aggressive 48, it quickly faded as England's bowlers took control.
Matthews found some support from Qiana Joseph and Zaida James, but none could convert their starts into a substantial score. Once Matthews was dismissed by Arlott, a steady stream of wickets followed.
Linsey Smith was the pick of the bowlers, returning figures of 4/36 in a sensational 10-over spell that broke the back of the middle order. Em Arlott (2/37) and Kate Cross (1/57) chipped in, while Lauren Bell and Alice Capsey also struck at crucial junctures.
Despite late resistance from Aaliyah Alleyne (44) and Karishma Ramharack (11*), the West Indies were eventually bundled out for 237 in 48.2 overs. The gulf in class was evident throughout, both with bat and ball.
