England have 'no chance' of winning Ashes with 'glass jaw', says McCullum

Brendon McCullum says England "don't get to feel sorry for themselves" and have "no chance" of coming from 2-0 down in the Ashes if they are not stronger.

England suffered a second consecutive eight-wicket defeat to Australia in Brisbane, after a second-innings collapse opened the door for their hosts to clinch the win.

The loss at the Gabba extended England's winless run in Australia to 17 matches, which includes 15 defeats and dates back to 2011.

It also means England need to win the final three Tests, starting with the third in Adelaide, which begins on December 17, to reclaim the urn.

On Sunday, captain Ben Stokes said his dressing room is “no place for weak men”, and McCullum agreed with the all-rounder.

"100%. It's no different to the language I've been using," McCullum said. "You don't get to feel sorry for yourself in these jobs.

"This is not a country where you can expect to be anything other than fully committed to what you're doing."

"Ultimately, you can't afford to flinch when you come down here. This is not a country to start doubting yourself or to walk away from the challenge.

"If you come to this country and have a glass jaw... you have no chance. You have to be strong, tough, and you have to get on with it."

Australia now need only a draw to retain the Ashes, having also brushed aside England in just two days in the opening Test last month.

McCullum admitted after the performance in Brisbane that his side had potentially trained too much, and as such, England are reportedly set to have just three days of training before Adelaide.
