England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday announced a preliminary 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the West Indies from June 2.
Sussex fast bowler Jofra Archer has recovered from his right elbow injury and has been named in the squad. Archer last represented England in March last year during the Bangladesh in the white-ball series.

Left-arm spinner Tom Hartley is the only uncapped T20I England player in the squad. Will Jacks also got a place and will take part in the World Cup (ODI or T20I) for the first time in his career.
England, who won the last edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia, have named a very dangerous squad under the leadership of Jos Buttler. Power-hitters Jonny Bairstow, Ben Duckett, Phil Salt, Will Jacks and Lima Livingstone have found places alongside top all-rounders Sam Curran and Moeen Ali.
However, a few big names have failed to make the cut. In the article, let's have a look at three big names who are not part of England's T20 World Cup squad.
Chris Woakes: The England pacer has won the ODI as well as the T20 World Cup with England. However, he has been overlooked this time around. He was also part of England's 2023 World Cup squad. The 25-year-old last played a T20I match in December 2023 against West Indies.
Dawid Malan: Once the number one ranked T20I batters in the world, Dawid Malan hasn't been included in England's preliminary squad for T20 World Cup 2024. Malan is still the tenth-ranked T20I batter in the world. The 36-year-old was last seen playing in PSL 2024 where he scored 123 runs in five matches at an average of 24.60, and a strike rate of 139.77. Malan was part of the 50-over World Cup last year.
Joe Root: The former England captain has never been acknowledged as a batter who can dominate T20 cricket despite him being one of the modern day greats of the game. While India and New Zealand have put their trust in Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson to anchor the innings, England have a clear intent of playing aggressive cricket throughout the 20 overs.
