England to play first ODI vs Scotland in Aug next year
London, July 13 (UNI) An all-British encounter between England and minnows Scotland is scheduled as both teams face off for a one-day international for the first time in 2008, as part of a deal securing the Scots' participation in county cricket.
The match has been provisionally scheduled for 18 August with a second meeting pencilled in for 2012, provided the Scots still cling on to their status.
England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive David Morgan said, ''We are delighted to reach this agreement.
As part of an agreement between the two boards, the Scottish Saltires and the Scotland A team will also continue to participate in the domestic structure in England and Wales for the foreseeable future.
''The ODI against Scotland will be the latest chapter in the friendly sporting rivalry between the two countries.? Cricket Scotland chief executive Roddy Smith echoed his delight about the deal.
''The ECB have been strong supporters of ours for a number of years and it was a logical step to make a formal agreement moving forward,'' he said.
''Having the full England side in Scotland for an ODI next year will give the game a huge boost and I am sure our cricketing public will be looking forward to welcoming the England team.'' Mr Smith added.
David Collier, ECB chief executive, echoed similar views, saying ''The ODI against Scotland will create a great deal of interest both north and south of the border and will be the latest chapter in the friendly sporting rivalry between the two countries.'' UNI
