England will look to carry momentum from the whitewash against West Indies when they face Sri Lanka in the first of the three-match Test series at the Old Trafford in Manchester, starting from Wednesday (August 21).

Ollie Pope will lead England in injured Ben Stokes' absence as the home side head into the match on the back of a 3-0 series win over West Indies, while Dhananjaya Da Silva-led Sri Lanka also come into the game on the back of a 2-0 away series win over Bangladesh.

This will Sri Lanka's second red ball outing at the Old Trafford in Manchester with their previous Test match at the venue coming way back in 2002 when the hosts claimed a 10-wicket win, chasing a paltry 50 in the first hour of the fifth day's play.

England, however, possess a decent record at the venue, where they have won over 30 times. In the most recent Test at Old Trafford in 2023, England and Australia shared the spoils following a draw in the 4th match of the Ashes 2023 series.
