England can win the World Cup as long as 'greatest' Rooney is fit: Cohen

By Super Admin

London, Oct. 11 (ANI): England's 1966 World Cup hero George Cohen thinks that Wayne Rooney is the greatest player ever and England can beat any team as long as Wayne Rooney is fighting fit.

"If we don't get too many injuries then we have a great chance at the World Cup - but one thing I really hope is Wayne Rooney stays fit," Sunday Express quoted Cohen, as saying.

"He is one of the greatest players I've ever seen. He has got it all this young fellow. To think he's only 23 - he's an absolutely sensational player.

"From what I can see, though, whenever he's not playing for us, we don't seem to function as well. That's why we must keep him fit," he added.

Cohen is so impressed by the striker that he has put him on a par with Spurs, Chelsea and West Ham legend Greaves.

Greaves scored an astonishing 44 goals in 57 games for England. Rooney, by comparison, had netted 25 times in 55 appearances so far.

"Greavsie was a great area player, a great poacher. I might be prejudiced, having known Jimmy for 55 years, but for me he was the outstanding goalscorer.

And Rooney seems to be the same, according to Cohen.

"Wayne seems to know instinctively where he should be on the pitch. As long as this guy stays fit then I believe we have a very good chance of scoring goals - which you always need, of course, he pointed out. (ANI)
