Rohit Sharma-led India riding on an 'unfair advantage' has sparked a huge debate in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. While the Indian team have refuted these allegations, their smooth passage to the final has intensified discussions.
Former English cricketer and T20 coach Ian Pont has now criticized the ICC, accusing it of allowing India to dictate key aspects of the competition's logistics.

Pont, who also had trial stints with Major League Baseball teams like the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies in the 1980s, took to social media to express his concerns over the fairness of the tournament.
"To maintain the integrity of the ICC and any future global tournaments, we cannot have any one single team completely dictating the logistics of the competition, as has happened in ChampionsTrophy2025. We either play the game with fair rules for all - or we don't bother," Pont stated.
His remarks came shortly after Indian captain Rohit Sharma dismissed any suggestions of undue advantage. Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir also weighed in, strongly refuting the claims.
"There's a lot of debate about the undue advantage and all that. What undue advantage? We haven't practiced here even for a day. We're practicing at the ICC Academy. And the conditions there and here are 180 degrees different. If you look at the wickets there and here, the difference is between the ground and the sky. Some people are just perpetual cribbers, man. They've got to grow up," Gambhir asserted.
India will now take on New Zealand at the summit clash in Dubai on 9th March as the former look to win a record 3rd title.
As discussions continue, opinions remain divided. While critics argue that the tournament lacked neutrality, supporters of the Indian team insist that no special privileges were granted. With the Champions Trophy nearing its conclusion, the debate over fairness in ICC events are unlikely to fade anytime soon.
