Hyderabad, Dec 7: Former Cricketer and BJP MP from Amritsar, Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu once again has landed in a controversy when he allegedly assaulted and "abducted" a security guard of a toll plaza who reportedly barred the MP from traveling without showing any ID proof or payment of toll fee.

The incident took place at National Highway 5 near Sullurpeta in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, Dec 6 when Sidhu was heading towards Nellore to attend a function organised by Swarna Bharathi Trust. The trust is owned by senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu.

According to sources, Chenchu Ramaiah - the guard of the toll plaza damaged the windshield of the former cricketer's car. The guard accused Sidhu's driver of ignoring his (the guard's) signal to stop.

However, Sindhu's driver claimed that he had shown the MP's ID card to the guard. The tension raised when the former Cricketer allegedly abducted the protesting guard in his car to the venue where Sidhu was invited to attend the ceremony. Later the family members of the guard and other villagers assembled and started protest against Sindhu demanding strong action against the former cricketer.

Meanwhile, sources informed that police have not yet filed a case against Sidhu or the guard. Though, reports also claimed that police tried to solve the case with the intervention of Naidu and his men. Police, however, rescued the guard from the office of Swarna Bharathi Trust.

Sidhu was earlier arrested and sent to jail over the murder of a man following a heated argument in Punjab in 1998. He was later forced to resign from his political position over being convicted of homicide.
