Ex-CSK Player Vansh Bedi in Spotlight amid DPL Betting Controversy, But He's Not the Accused One

Former Chennai Super Kings player Vansh Bedi has found himself at the centre of the latest controversy surrounding alleged betting and corruption in Indian domestic cricket, after his name surfaced in reports linked to a sting operation involving former Ranji Trophy cricketer Rachit Bhatia.

Bedi, however, is not accused of making a corrupt approach. In fact, according to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), the young wicketkeeper-batter himself reported a suspected fixing approach to the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) during the 2026 Delhi Premier League (DPL).

Bedi represented Central Delhi Kings during the recently concluded DPL season. A senior DDCA official told PTI that Bedi was approached by a player from Uttar Pradesh and immediately reported the matter to the ACU. The complaint was subsequently documented, and the DDCA informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), seeking guidance on the matter.

The development came amid a separate controversy triggered by a Tehelka sting operation. In the investigation, Bhatia allegedly claimed access to confidential playing-XI information and discussed betting and spot-fixing in domestic and IPL cricket. Tehelka reported that Bhatia had claimed he could obtain Central Delhi Kings' team information before matches. These claims remain allegations and have not been independently established.

Bedi's previous association with CSK has added another layer of attention to the controversy. He was part of the franchise's IPL set-up in 2025 before an injury ruled him out of the season. He later returned to domestic cricket and featured for Central Delhi Kings in the DPL.

After speculation on social media linked him to the unnamed player mentioned in the sting, Bedi publicly denied the allegation, describing the claims as false and defamatory. He has maintained that he was not the individual referred to in the investigation.

The DDCA has stressed that the wider allegations are currently unverified and that conclusions should not be drawn against any individual or franchise without due process. The association has shared the information with the relevant authorities and is awaiting further guidance.
