Ex-India cricketer Salil Ankola's Mother found dead in Pune Flat, Police start investigation

In a disheartening event, the mother of former cricketer Salil Ankola was discovered deceased in her apartment located in Pune.

Salil Ankola's mother was found dead in her own flat and upon their arrival, law enforcement officers encountered a distressing scene, where they observed a metal bar wrapped around the neck of the deceased.

This tragic incident has left the sports community in shock as they mourn the loss of a family member connected to one of their own.

The unfortunate discovery was made on Friday (October 4) but the police personnel were surprised with the lack of disturbances around the corpse, which has made the case massively complex to solve. As per reports, the Deccan Police in Pune has already started an investigation and is looking into the cause of her death, which as of now has been indicating as a self-infliction and suicide.

The details surrounding the circumstances of her death have prompted an investigation, with authorities delving into the matter to uncover more information. As the investigation continues, the cricket fraternity and fans are extending their thoughts and condolences to Salil Ankola and his family during this difficult period.

The former player was deeply saddened by the incident and took to social media to bid adieu to his mother. "Good bye Mom," Ankola wrote on his Instagram profile.

Ankola started his career with Maharashtra and then represented Mumbai in domestic cricket. He also went on to play for India, representing the nation in 1 Test and 20 ODIs.

Ankola also acted in a few Bollywood films, debuting in 2000 with the movie Kurukshetra. He was also a participant in the Big Boss for a season. In 2010, a match was played for Ankola's benefit in which the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni took part. The 56-year-old was also a national selector and only relinquished his post in August, 2024.
