Ex-India pacer Parwinder Awana appointed as BCCI Junior Selection Committee Chairman, World Cup Winner in Panel
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) overhauled its junior selection framework. Former India fast bowler Parvinder Awana took over as the new chairman of the Junior Selection Committee. The announcement arrived on Friday following a rigorous interview process.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), featuring Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, finalized the appointments. They recommended Awana alongside three other domestic veterans to steer India's youth cricket pipeline. The board confirmed a fifth committee member will join the panel shortly.

Awana earned two T20 International caps for India. The robust seamer built a formidable red-ball reputation. He bagged 191 wickets across 62 First-Class matches. He spearheaded the Delhi pace attack for years. He also represented India A, Rest of India, and Kings XI Punjab in the IPL.
Post-retirement, Awana transitioned seamlessly into coaching. He managed Delhi's Under-16, Under-19, and Under-23 setups. His coaching resume features crucial stints with the India Under-19 squad and high-performance programs at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
The CAC leaned heavily toward former fast bowlers while assembling this committee. Krishna Das joins the panel carrying a solid domestic track record. The former Assam and Goa seamer claimed 166 wickets in 49 First-Class outings. He previously represented India A and the India Under-19 side. Das transitioned into coaching roles with the Uttarakhand Ranji Trophy setup and the national under-19 team.
Rakesh Patel adds immense grassroots knowledge. The former seamer played for Gujarat, Baroda, and India A. He competed across the Duleep Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, and Irani Cup. Patel recently coached Baroda's Under-23 squad during the 2025-26 season. He carries extensive experience managing senior and age-group state teams.
World Cup Winner Joins the Ranks
Arjun Yadav completes the initial four-man committee. He lifted the Under-19 World Cup with India in 2000. The Hyderabad stalwart featured in 83 First-Class matches. He represented India A before shifting his focus to administration and coaching. Yadav coached Hyderabad's senior and Under-23 teams. He later served as a BCCI match referee in 2022.
