Former Mumbai Indians player Shivalik Sharma has been arrested by Rajasthan Police after being accused of rape by a woman who claimed he exploited her under the false promise of marriage.

The arrest has come as a shock to cricket fans, especially with the IPL 2025 season currently underway.

The complaint, filed at the Kudi Bhagtasni Housing Board Police Station in Jodhpur, alleges that Sharma, 26, developed a relationship with the woman after they met during a trip to Vadodara in February 2023.

According to the woman, they stayed in touch and grew closer over time. She claimed that Sharma built a romantic relationship with her and promised marriage, based on which she consented to a physical relationship.

She further stated that in August 2023, Sharma's parents visited Jodhpur, where both families met and even agreed to a formal engagement. However, the woman said that Sharma later refused to marry her, leading her to file a police complaint accusing him of betrayal and sexual assault.

Based on her allegations, Jodhpur police tracked Sharma down to Vadodara in Gujarat, where he was arrested from the Atladara area. He was later produced in a Jodhpur court and has since been remanded to judicial custody.

Police officials have confirmed that a detailed investigation is currently underway, and all claims are being verified. The case has been taken seriously due to the nature of the allegations, and authorities are collecting evidence and testimonies.

Shivalik Sharma, a native of Vadodara, played for Mumbai Indians during the 2024 IPL season. Although he is not part of the 2025 IPL squad, the timing of his arrest during the tournament has brought significant attention to the case.

The incident has left fans disappointed, with many awaiting the outcome of the investigation. Sharma has not issued any official statement yet, and the truth is expected to come to light as the case progresses.
