MyKhel Exclusive! India can't afford not having Mohammed Shami in the team Down Under, says Varun Aaron

By Indranil Basu

Indian pacer Varun Aaron isn't going to mince his words when it comes to fast bowling. On Friday inside the Jharkhand State Cricket Association, Varun was clear that the Indian team pace attack without Mohd Shami won't be a good idea.

"Let him play from the second Test atleast if you still want to see his consistency. But Mohd Shami is a must in order to rattle the Aussies along with Jasprit Bumrah," Aaron told MyKhel during an exclusive chat.

The fact that Shami has come back with a bang in a Ranji match for Bengal has promoted Varun to speak his mind. "It's about controlled aggression whether you are batting or bowling. You need to attack in Australia to push them on the back foot and it is here that Shami is going to be important for his experience of handling pressure situations," Varun said.

Shami is expected to be picked for the India team which is schedule to play five Test matches Down Under. Shami is coming back after a year or so and his presence along with Bumrah may help the team keep the Aussies at bay.

With India struggling to find their feet in Test cricket at home and having lost the three-match Test series against New Zealand, everyone wants to see how they fair in Australia and thereby maintain their dominance in longest format of the game.

India have previously won the Border-Gavaskar trophy in 2018 and 2021 and it would be an icing on the cake to beat Australia in Australia for the third time.
