Indian skipper Dhoni gets extortion threat

By Staff

Ranchi, Dec 31: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Indian Cricket Skipper received a letter threatening to harm his family if he does not pay Rs 50 lakh to underworld kingpin Dawood Ibrahim.
Police sources said on Wednesday, Dec 31 that 'all precautionary measures' are taken and the Captain's security has been further tightened.

The letter was sent to Dhoni's family by a person claiming to be a member of the D-gang (Dawood Gang). But the Police said that the letter 'actually has originated locally from a
colony which is very much inside Ranchi and not very far from where Dhoni lives."

S N Pradhan, the Inspector General and Jharkhand police spokesperson, said that the letter could be a job of 'local criminals.' He, however, said that "we are taking all precautionary measures and I am sure it will be sort out quickly."

Sampat Meena, the Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police said that the police were investigation the source of the letter and more information regarding this cannot be divulged at present. Dhoni at present enjoys security at par with 'Z' category and after the threat letter it has been upgraded. Pradhan said, "it appears to be an act of mischief by local criminals. In that colony there are two rival groups that tend to trap and expose each other. So we believe this is some kind of mischief going on but we would not like to underplay it."
