Fact Check: Did Khaleel Ahmed Tamper with the Ball During IPL 2025 Match Between CSK and MI?

By MyKhel Staff

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) found themselves embroiled in controversy during their IPL 2025 season opener against Mumbai Indians (MI). A viral video circulating on social media has led to accusations of ball tampering, with pacer Khaleel Ahmed at the center of the claims.

The footage allegedly shows Khaleel taking an object from his pocket and discreetly handing it over to CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who then placed it in his own pocket.

Khaleel Ahmed

Although the exact nature of the item remains uncertain, the incident has sparked heated debates online, with some fans questioning the integrity of the game.

What's The Truth?

Despite the allegations, Khaleel Ahmed delivered a stellar performance with the ball, claiming three wickets and restricting MI to a total of 155 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. While the accusations gained traction, others came to Khaleel's defense, suggesting the object could have simply been a personal item like a ring or a finger protector.

The controversy also reignited memories of CSK's troubled history when the franchise was handed a two-year suspension from the IPL starting in July 2015. This came as a consequence of their owners' involvement in the infamous 2013 IPL betting scandal. However, the team made a triumphant return in the 2018 season, clinching the championship title and making a statement with their remarkable comeback.

Chennai are yet to give an official statement regarding the incident.

The Match

During the run-chase, CSK started on a cautious note. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, despite batting at the No. 3 spot, played an authoritative knock, smashing 53 off 26 deliveries. His aggressive approach gave CSK the momentum they needed.

Rachin Ravindra anchored the innings superbly, remaining unbeaten on 65 from 45 balls to ensure CSK reached the target in 19.1 overs. His calm demeanor and well-timed strokes kept the chase on track, even when pressure mounted.

The 5-time champions will be next seen in action on Friday, 28th March once again at the Chepauk.
