Fact Check: Did R Ashwin say 'Small Money, Big Money' on patriotism amid India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 Match? Know the Truth

By MyKhel Staff

The India and Pakistan saga continues and it has intensified further amid the recent announcements of the Asia Cup 2025. India has been slated in the same group with Pakistan, much to the dismay of the people in this country.

Not so long ago, the nations were almost dragged into war, following a barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam from Pakistan-fed terrorists. India retaliated with Operation Sindoor and secured a massive success in decimating terror shelters inside Pakistan.

R Ashwin make Small Money Big Money comment protesting India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 Match

Just more than two months after the escalation, the scenario seems to have changed. India and Pakistan are tipped to resume their cricketing journey again.

The World Championship of Legends match, scheduled for July 20, 2025, in Birmingham, was cancelled after Indian players, including Shikhar Dhawan, withdrew due to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people. This led to geopolitical tensions influencing cricket schedules, with sponsor EaseMyTrip boycotting Pakistan events.

Amid this, India will take on Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 despite public debate. Although it has aghast the netizens, there were reports that Ashwin has spoken against the scheduling. And as per social media, Ashwin took apart BCCI and made an explosive comment while opining about the resumption of India-Pakistan matches.

India vs Pakistan: Ravichandran Ashwin made shocking Comment?

A viral X post by @viralmax777 on July 26, 2025 attributed a statement to cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin criticizing the BCCI and Indian government. The alleged quote claimed the cancellation of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) India-Pakistan match was due to "small money," while the Asia Cup 2025 match persisted due to financial interests overriding patriotism.

Fact Check: R Ashwin's Quote is Fake, Former India player takes Stance

Ravichandran Ashwin took to X and slammed the user for spreading fake news and associating his name with it. The India legend clarified that he never said such words and directly referred to the original post as misinformation.

"Don't associate me with this fake news. Shame on those who trigger all this," Ashwin wrote on X.

The attributed quote is fabricated and Ashwin has no record of making such comments. Hence, it is one of those cases of fake news spreading, which has become a regularity in the modern world.
