As India prepare for the Test series against England, a significant rumour gained pace on Sunday (June 15).
Shubman Gill and company played their intrasquad match as Gautam Gambhir still remains in India as he came back to stay beside his ailing mother. Amid this, former India player VVS Laxman was seen in the India camp, which ignited the speculations.

That remained the big question on Sunday. Many reports indicated that Laxman has joined the coaching staff for the senior team amid Gambhir's absence. Gambhir, whose return to England date is not yet confirmed, was said to be temporarily replaced by Laxman. Although there was no official confirmation from BCCI, the reports suggested the former India player may be staying with the team for the first Test match, which starts in Headingley on June 20.
VVS Laxman attended the Indian team camp just to spend time with the boys, nothing more significant than that. As Cricbuzz confirmed, the former player holds no official role as interim head coach and was only present to probably give insights to the players about playing in English conditions.
Sources close to BCCI also said to Cricbuzz that the plan for Laxman to visit London from a different trip to Switzerland was known and that was not a surprise. It is understood that Laxman also visited the Beckenham ground where the India players were playing the intrasquad match. To make matters straight, Laxman is expected to return to India within a couple of days.
Gautam Gambhir returned to India a few days ago but is expected to join the team soon. Gambhir's mother's health condition has been improving, and the head coach is expected to fly back to London within a couple of days.
