Fact Check: Jos Buttler Changes Name to stop his poor IPL 2024 Form with Rajasthan Royals?

England batter and current Rajasthan Royals player Jos Buttler has changed his name after being called by the wrong name in his entire life.

The Englishman has been a brilliant performer for his country and franchise teams over the years. Buttler, who is known for his destructive batting, is one of the most feared batters and has a stellar record in the IPL.

Representing Rajasthan Royals, Buttler scored 863 runs in the 2022 season. He backed that up with another decent season last year, scoring 392 runs. But the RR batter's season in 2024 has started in an underwhelming fashion.

Buttler has scored 35 runs in three matches for Rajasthan Royals and as the news of him changing his name emerged, fans on social media clung to the theory that Buttler's decision to change his name roots from his poor form in the IPL. There were multiple fan discussions on social media about how a name change may be the solution for Buttler to get back to his destructive self.

What is Jos Buttler's New Name?

Jos Buttler changed his first name from Jos to Josh. The player has only added an extra 'H' and the pronunciation of the name also changes. He is now known as Josh Buttler.

Fact Check: Why did Jos Buttler change his name to Josh Buttler?

The decision for Jos Buttler to become Josh Buttler has no connection with the IPL 2024 form.

Buttler decided to change his name from 'Jos' to 'Josh' as people have never called him with his original name. The England and Wales Cricket Board released a video and the player was seen explaining how he was wrongfully named his entire life, but also decided to make the significant change to 'solve the problems for once and all'.

"Hi there. I'm England white-ball captain Jos Buttler. But for my entire life, I've been called the wrong name."

"From people on the street to my mum, and in my birthday card. Dear Josh, you're getting old. Happy birthday. Lots of Love, Mum. Even my MBE was wrong. So, after 13 years representing my country and two World Cup wins, it's time to finally fix the problem. To solve the problem once and for all, I am officially Josh Buttler," Buttler said in the announcement video.

The 33-year-old will be hoping to don his new name with some runs under his belt for Rajasthan Royals. He will also lead the England team as they defend their T20 World Cup crown in June this year.
