'Fast bowlers will always be the fittest members of the Indian Team': Jasprit Bumrah on who he feels leads the fitness goals of Indian Cricket

By Karan Sethi

India's star cricketer Japrit Bumrah, was at his cheeky best while stating that the fast bowlers will always be the fittest members of the team. Jasprit wore a wide smile on his face while stating that being a fast bowler who grinds in the heat, he will always take his own name or that of a fellow fast bowler when asked 'who is the fittest Indian cricketer'?

Bumrah was speaking at a recent event in Delhi where he addressed the question. The champion bowler expressed that a fast bowler who runs all day long in the heat has to have prime fitness. He then went on to take his own name as the fittest player of the Indian team.

"When I am asked about the fittest cricketer of the Indian team, I will take my name because I am a fast bowler. Being a fast bowler in India and playing in such heat, you ought to be extremely fit. So whenever asked this question, I always promote fast bowlers and always take a fast bowler's name,"said Jasprit.

The 29-year-old also shared how fitness has made a special place for itself in the Indian cricket team's overall culture. For Jasprit, serving the country for as long as possible while enjoying the game is the most important. However, he feels that is only possible when nutrition is not overlooked.

"Fitness is as important as anything else in cricket. A few years ago there was a fitness transition that happened in the Indian team. Yes, you may train as much as you want but if you're not taking care of your nutrition, your recovery will be hampered. We athletes are getting older and for us to prolong our career and serve the nation for as long as possible, our fitness is paramount."

"I am very excited about cricket being a part of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics" Says Japrit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah feels that cricket is well on its way to grow even further with it now being a part of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The sport was previously a part of the Summer Games in 1900 and would yet again be included in the next edition in the United States. Speaking on the same, Jasprit, expressed his delight.

"We are very excited about cricket being at the Olympics. At Least, since the time I have been a part of the Indian Team, cricket has not been played at the Olympics. That is something I am really looking forward to." Bumrah concluded.

Jasprit Bumrah is back and raring to go after a period of rest post the T20 World Cup. He will be seen in action very soon as a part of the Indian test team that will take on Bangladesh at home this month.
