On June 23, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chose Kumble as the chief coach of Team India. His first assignment will be this month when the Virat Kohli-led Test side travels to the Caribbean.

India will play 4 Tests against the West Indies. The first match is in Antigua from July 21. The 17-man squad completed a preparatory camp in Bengaluru yesterday (July 4).

When McGrath was asked about Kumble, the Australian described the former legspinner as a "fighter" and said Indian cricket is in "good hands".

"I think Indian cricket is in good hands now. He has been a fighter. Though I haven't seen him as a coach, I feel he will approach coaching with the same attitude. You have to be a good man manager to deal with the board as well as the players. I am sure he will do a good job," McGrath told "The Asian Age" newspaper in Chennai on Monday (July 4).

McGrath is in Chennai to coach the fast bowlers at the MRF Pace Foundation.
