First ICL camp concludes, intended result achieved: Sandhu

Chennai, Sep 20 (UNI) The 20-day fitness and assessment camp which kicked off the onfield activity of Essel Group's Indian Cricket League (ICL) concluded at the Mayajaal Sports Complex here today.

Chief Coach Balwinder Singh Sandhu said it had laid a good foundation for more action to follow. The camp helped to dispel even the slightest of suspicion about the league, which will enter the next stage when the players assemble for the next round.

The biggest achievement was that the camp had formally set in motion the concept of ICL. There were criticisms and doubts.

''We successfully overcame all these things'', he said.

Observing that much of the target set for the camp had been achieved, Sandhu said though the players went through tough routines at the camp, they gained immensely. The fitness of the players was also assessed.

The players were involved in some practice matches also. ''The presence of players like former national captain and ICL chairman Kapil Dev, former selection committee chairman Kiran More and former wicket-keeper Bharat Reddy boosted the players morale,'' he said.

''All the campers had a good time and everybody knows his role now'', an ecstatic Sandhu said.

After a two-week break the players would reassemble at Mumbai or Delhi. The venue would be decided after taking into consideration the weather.

The players were also told about their routine to be followed till the next camp.
