'Foreign Brands, Marriage in Italy' - Shama Mohamed post on bashing Virat Kohli resurfaces amid Rohit Sharma row

By MyKhel Staff

India captain Rohit Sharma has found himself at the heart of a fresh controversy created by Congress' spokesperson, Shama Mohammed.

Mohammed, who is a politician from Kerala, has been under huge criticism across the globe for her comments on Rohit body-shaming the India captain.

In a social media post, Shama called Rohit Sharma as 'fat' and 'unfit' to represent India as captain. Although she deleted her tweet, Shama has continued to defend her statement she saying her comment on Rohit was only on his fitness.

The politician compared Rohit's physique with former captains such as Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli and called Rohit as "most unimpressive Captain India has ever had."

The visuals of her statement to the media have spread like wildfire, and she has been under massive criticism. Plenty of opposition party (BJP) officials have bashed her and have taken a stand beside Rohit Sharma. Amid this, an old post of Mohamed on Virat Kohli has resurfaced.

Shama Mohamed on Virat Kohli - What Happened?

Virat Kohli was at the centre of a war of words with a fan in 2018 when one called him over-rated and spoke highly about English and Australian batters.

"I don't think you should live in India, go and live somewhere else. Why are you living in our country and loving other countries? I don't mind you not liking me, but I don't think you should live in our country and like other things. Get your priorities right," Kohli responded to the fan's comment.

Upon that, Shama took on the India batter and criticized Kohli for his comments. She posted on X (formerly Twitter) and slammed Virat citing his association with foreign brands and lifestyle.

"Virat Kohli plays a British invented game, makes crores from endorsing foreign brands, got married in Italy, names Hershelle Gibbs his favorite cricketer and Angelique Kerber the best tennis player, but tells those who love foreign batsmen to leave India," she wrote.

As the old post has resurfaced, fans have slammed the Congress politician, labelling she has problem with all the India players. Although Rohit Sharma's body-shaming was absolutely uncalled for, her counter to Virat Kohli was not completely out of order.
