Fast bowler Deepak Chahar was one of the marquee signings in the IPL 2025 mega auction, moving from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to Mumbai Indians (MI) for ₹9.25 crore.
Chahar, a vital cog in CSK's setup for years, will be a part of MI's formidable pace attack featuring Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult.

Following the auction, Chahar's wife, Jaya Bhardwaj, took to Instagram to share an emotional post about her bond with CSK. The post accompanied photos featuring MS Dhoni, CSK players’ wives, and snapshots of Jaya in the iconic yellow jersey.
"From cheering in the stands to celebrating love on the field where I said 'yes' in front of the whole world," the caption read. "My heart will always be tied to this team. Forever grateful for the wonderful memories."
Chahar proposed to Jaya on live television during CSK’s 2021 IPL league-stage match, a gesture etched in IPL history. Married in 2022, the couple’s CSK chapter culminated with Chahar’s release during the IPL 2025 auction, where he was acquired by the Mumbai Indians.
In the 2025 IPL auction, Mumbai Indians secured Chahar’s services for a big sum of ₹9.25 crore after a fierce bidding war with CSK.
Although the pacer expressed a tinge of regret about leaving CSK following the move, his excitement for the new opportunity was evident. "I’m quite happy. I had hoped to continue with CSK, but no regrets,” Chahar said in an interview with JioCinema. “Now, I’ll be playing for another great franchise which has won five IPL trophies. I’ll obviously miss playing with MS Dhoni."
"This is going to be a very important season for me. My main goal is to play for India again. I’ve been training hard and playing regularly in domestic cricket to be at my best,” he added.
In a light-hearted exchange with Suresh Raina on the auction’s live broadcast, Chahar also highlighted the strategic advantage of his move to the Mumbai Indians. Reflecting on the shift, he remarked how his skill set would thrive on Mumbai’s pacer-friendly pitches compared to spinner-dominated conditions in Chennai.
"Every time I talk to Rahul (Chahar), I say you are playing for the team (MI) I should be playing and I am playing for the team (CSK) you should be playing, skill-wise,” Suresh Raina joked.
After finally securing the move for the pacer ahead of the upcoming IPL season, MI will count on Chahar’s expertise, particularly in powerplay overs, where his controlled swing bowling has proved invaluable over the years.
